El Col·legi d’Enginyers Industrials de Catalunya receives the Creu de Sant Jordi 2026 on its 75th anniversary

The award, presented on 21 April at the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya, recognises the Col·legi’s trajectory and contribution to the country’s industrial, technological and social progress. The distinction was collected by Dean Narcís Armengol, who is also CEO of Wattega.

El Col·legi d’Enginyers Industrials de Catalunya has received the Creu de Sant Jordi 2026, one of the highest distinctions awarded by the Generalitat de Catalunya. The ceremony was held yesterday, 21 April, in the Sala Oval of the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya (MNAC), in an event that coincides with the institution’s 75th anniversary.

The recognition highlights the Col·legi’s trajectory and its sustained contribution to the country’s industrial, technological and social progress. It also underscores the role it has played over time in consolidating a rigorous, committed professional practice oriented towards the general interest.

In this sense, the distinction places engineering at the centre of a collective contribution that goes beyond the strictly technical sphere. The award recognises both the institutional role of the Col·legi and the accumulated work of generations of engineers who have contributed to the country’s development and to society’s well-being.

A recognition with a collective dimension

The Creu de Sant Jordi comes in a particularly significant year for the Col·legi. The celebration of its 75th anniversary provides context for an award that is not read solely in commemorative terms, but also as recognition of an ongoing trajectory of service, knowledge and commitment.

The Col·legi and the Associació have wished to extend this recognition to the entire collective that has been part of the institutions throughout their history. This collective reading reinforces the idea that the distinction is not addressed only to a specific stage, but to a sustained contribution over time, linked to the evolution of industry, technology and Catalan society.

The perspective accompanying this recognition also points towards the future. In the reflections made on the occasion of the award, the determination to face the challenges of society and the planet with commitment, responsibility and a forward-looking perspective is emphasised, as is the intention to continue asserting the role of engineering as part of the solutions the country needs.

Narcís Armengol receives the award on behalf of the Col·legi

The distinction was collected by Narcís Armengol, Dean of the Col·legi, on behalf of the institution. For Wattega, this creates a direct and natural link to the news, since Armengol is also the company’s CEO.

His presence at the event connects two complementary dimensions: the institutional one, as representative of the Col·legi, and the professional one, through his responsibility at the head of Wattega. Even so, the focus of the news remains the recognition of the Col·legi and of the professional collective it represents.

From Wattega’s perspective, this award is interpreted as good news for engineering as a whole and for the value it brings to society. It is also so because it reinforces an idea we fully share: that industrial, technological and social progress requires technical knowledge, responsibility and the ability to respond to new challenges.

With the awarding of the Creu de Sant Jordi 2026, El Col·legi d’Enginyers Industrials de Catalunya receives a country-wide recognition at a symbolic moment in its trajectory. From Wattega, we congratulate the Col·legi, its Dean and the entire collective of engineers who have contributed to making this trajectory possible.
