Sitges Climate Plan 2050
Motivation
The Sitges Climate Plan 2050 stems from the aim of providing the municipality with a cross-cutting climate strategy, with a long-term vision, to respond to the challenges of climate change mitigation and adaptation.
With a 2050 horizon, the Plan defines the lines of action required to move towards climate neutrality, effectively reduce vulnerability to climate impacts and contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals. At the same time, it sets out the pathway to reduce emissions by 55,3% in 2030 compared to 2005, ensuring a just transition that leaves no group behind.
Results
ERF-Wattega has provided technical support to Ajuntament de Sitges in the preparation of the Sitges Climate Plan 2050, coordinated by the Department of Climate Action, Energy Transition and Natural Spaces and developed with the municipal areas involved in climate action.
The Plan defines 84 planned actions: 50 linked to climate change mitigation, 28 aimed at adaptation to its effects and 6 focused on climate action governance.
The actions are structured into three main areas of action: energy transition and decarbonisation, resilience and adaptation to the effects of climate change, and communication and governance of the Plan. These areas are deployed through axes linked to energy efficiency, renewable energies, sustainable mobility, responsible consumption, people’s safety and protection, water cycle management, coastal adaptation, green infrastructure, municipal coordination and the involvement of socioeconomic stakeholders and citizens.
The Plan makes it possible to structure Sitges’ climate strategy to achieve a 55,3% reduction in emissions by 2030, maximise emissions reduction by the 2050 horizon and move towards a more resilient, low-carbon municipality committed to a just transition.
