LEED Certification

At WATTEGA, we are committed to advancing sustainability and energy efficiency in the built environment. That’s why we guide and support our clients through the LEED certification process, one of the most respected international standards for sustainable buildings.

LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is a globally recognised green building certification system, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).

It is the world’s leading benchmark for environmental quality and a key differentiating factor in real estate developments.

It is a global tool for the design, assessment and independent auditing of buildings’ environmental performance, based on a quantitative scoring system (eco-points) grounded on objective and measurable criteria.

It provides an independent third-party framework for assessing and validating the environmental performance of buildings across their entire lifecycle — from design and construction to operation and maintenance.

Assesses various aspects of a building’s environmental performance, including:

  • Energy efficiency
  • Water conservation
  • Indoor environmental quality
  • Sustainable material choices
  • Integration with the surrounding environment

How LEED Works

LEED is based on a 100-point rating system, weighted according to a building’s environmental impact, with up to 10 additional bonus points available. To achieve certification, a project must meet all 12 prerequisites and reach a minimum score:

  • Certified (40-49 points)
  • Silver (50-59 points)
  • Gold (60-79 points)
  • Platinum (80-110 points)

Our Role in the LEED Process

As your sustainability and environmental consultants, we work closely with architects, engineers, and developers to embed sustainable strategies in every phase of a project — from early concept through to certification. Our support includes:

✔ Sustainable design guidance

Supporting the selection of low-impact materials and performance strategies that enhance efficiency and reduce environmental impact.

✔ LEED strategy and credit planning

Identifying the most effective LEED credits to pursue, tailored to the project’s goals and context.

✔ Environmental project management

Coordinating teams and workflows to streamline sustainability integration and ensure compliance with LEED requirements.

✔ Performance analysis and simulation

Conducting energy models and environmental impact assessments to optimise design performance.

✔ Documentation and certification support

Managing the submission of documentation and coordinating the review process with the certifying body.

✔ On-site implementation oversight

Monitoring sustainable strategies during construction to verify they are properly executed.

In addition, WATTEGA has experience across a wide range of projects—primarily in Barcelona and Catalonia—including offices, wineries, research centres and exhibition buildings, ensuring a rigorous and effective approach to achieving certification.

Why LEED Certification Matters

Achieving LEED certification brings strategic and tangible benefits for clients and stakeholders, including:

✔ Reduced environmental impact and resource use
✔ Global recognition and market differentiation
✔ Improved occupant comfort and wellbeing
✔ Long-term operational savings and efficiency gains
✔ Enhanced project reputation and sustainability leadership
